Superior Construction Awarded Bridge Replacement Projects in Howard County
HOWARD COUNTY, In. (June 5, 2025) — Superior Construction, an American family-owned infrastructure contractor, has been awarded two strategic bridge replacement projects in Howard County. These projects address structural deficiencies amid national bridge safety concerns.
According to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, one in three U.S. bridges needs repair or replacement, highlighting the timeliness and importance of these Howard County projects. For local residents and commuters who travel these routes daily, these replacements represent improved infrastructure and enhanced peace of mind.
The Haynes International Bridge project, awarded through Howard County, began in early April and is expected to be substantially complete by late August. Final completion is scheduled for June of 2026. Crews working on the bridge, which is on Defenbaugh Street, will utilize specialized heavy equipment, including excavators, cranes, and pile hammers.
Simultaneously, Superior will tackle the CR 300 East bridge replacement awarded by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). The bridge will be fully closed for approximately 120 days during construction. This comprehensive overhaul includes replacing the bridge deck, installing new steel girders and cross braces, modifying the substructure, and implementing shorter concrete railings across the 150-foot span.
“By taking care of these structural issues now, we’re helping rebuild trust in the bridges people use daily,” said Sean Townsend. Project Manager of the Haynes International Bridge project.
During construction of the CR 300 East bridge, which crosses environmentally sensitive Wildcat Creek, Superior will implement specialized mitigation techniques to protect local wildlife habitats. The company is collaborating with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to safeguard bat populations, migratory birds, and aquatic ecosystems throughout construction.
These dual projects further cement Superior Construction’s position as a trusted infrastructure partner in Indiana, adding to their extensive portfolio of bridge projects completed throughout the region.
