General Scope

We’re excited to announce that Superior Construction was selected to build the First Coast Expressway (SR16 to Shands Bridge) project in Clay County for the Florida Department of Transportation. This $179.24M, 9.4 mile project includes the construction of 14 bridges; 12,000 CY of structural concrete; 2.2M pounds of reinforcing steel; 14,000 LF concrete girders; 22,000 LF concrete piling; 3M CY of excavation; 6M CY of embankment; and 178,000 tons of asphalt. When completed, this open-road tolling project will enhance connectivity and spur economic development in Northeast Florida.
Superior Construction recently broke ground on our First Coast Expressway project. This nearly 10-mile greenfield project includes a new multi-lane and limited access toll road, approximately six million cubic yards of embarkment, a drainage system with storm water ponds, 15 bridges, tolling facilities, and a four-lane diverging diamond interchange. The diverging diamond interchange diverts the traffic pattern, increasing safety for travelers making left turns across traffic. The First Coast Expressway project has a five-year duration with a Fall 2024 projected completion date.
