The Work

Superior Construction delivered 3.5 miles of new highway as part of the ongoing extension of Suncoast Parkway 2 from the Tampa Bay region toward Crystal River. Crews managed the massive job of moving 1.6 million cubic yards of earthwork within an accelerated schedule. The project also included construction of five bridge structures and installation of nearly 195,000 square feet of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls.

The Results

The Suncoast Parkway 2, Phase 2A project provides a critical transportation link supporting Florida’s growth in the north-central region. By self-performing major elements such as grading, bridge construction, and MSE wall installation, Superior maximized efficiency, leveraged in-house expertise, and accelerated delivery — all while upholding quality and meeting community expectations.

This project highlights the strength of collaboration between Superior Construction, the Florida Turnpike Enterprise, and partners such as Volkert. The success of Phase 2A established a strong foundation for future work, including Suncoast Parkway 2, Phase 3A, which began construction in August 2025.
