Overview
The project included widening I- 95 from four lanes to six, reconstructing a major interchange at SR 100 to a single-point urban configuration, milling and resurfacing the existing four lanes, widening two bridges over Lehigh Railroad Spur Canal, and replacing the bridge over the environmentally sensitive Pellicer Creek. The Superior Construction team reduced traffic impacts by designing and implementing a girder erection plan for the 243 LF steel plate girders at SR 100. This plan involved the preassembly of the girders into pairs on the ground and erecting the assembled units, effectively reducing by half the number of detours. To efficiently construct the project and accelerate certain components, the team divided the project into six 3-mile segments, allowing for half of the project to be accelerated in advance of the busy holiday season and reducing overall impacts to traffic.
