Overview

This project completed the SR 9A (I-295) beltway around Jacksonville by providing a system-to-system interchange designed in the unique turbine style at the I-295 J Turner Butler Blvd (JTB / SR 200) interchange. Superior Construction’s involvement consisted of six elevated steel girder bridges; bridge widening with AASHTO Type II, Type III, and Type IV beams; three flat slab bridge widenings; two new box culverts; and two box culvert extensions. The design included super elevated circular ramps consisting of six steel twin box girder bridges ranging in length from 325 feet to 1,778 feet, with a maximum span length of 282.5 feet. Superior Construction closely and constantly coordinated with adjacent facilities, including the University of North Florida, the St. Johns Town Center Shopping area, and the separate FDOT widening project of JTB Blvd to the east.
